Jean Sencabaugh of Medford passed away on December 8, 2015 at age 94. Born in Kingwood, West Virginia, on July 14, 1921, Jean was the youngest child of John F. A. and Otta (Schaeffer) Copeman. After graduation from Potomac State School (now Potomac State College of West Virginia University) in Keyser, WV, Jean went to work in Washington, D.C., from where she enlisted in the first class of Navy WAVES . While teaching in Signalman’s School outside of Memphis, TN, she met John A. “Rusty” Sencabaugh, who married her in 1944 and brought her home with him to Medford, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Jean was for over fifty years a member of The First Baptist Church of Medford, where at one time she served as Moderator and as President of the Women’s Federation. For many years she belonged to Royall Chapter, O.E.S., and to the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John A. “Rusty” Sencabaugh. She is survived by her children Kathryn Sencabaugh and her husband Michael Meehan of Chattanooga, TN; Johna Wasdyke and her husband Roy of Melrose, MA; and David Sencabaugh and his wife Janeen of Medford. She was the loving grandmother of six grandchildren, David Wasdyke, Daniel Sencabaugh and his wife Meghan, Rachel Wasdyke, Jessica Meehan, Jon Sencabaugh and Justin Sencabaugh and four great-grandchildren, Carly, Jed, Lily, and Aidan Sencabaugh.
Her Funeral Service will be celebrated in the First Baptist Church, 29 Oakland Street, Medford on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday, December 11, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
