Jose H. Santos, 90, of New Bedford died December 4, 2015 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Mariana G. (Graca) Santos.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Henrique and Candida (Mingola) Santos, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Santos was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in New Bedford.
He was formerly employed as a chef with Operating Engineers Union Local 25 and National Maritime Union Local 333 for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Santos was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club. He enjoyed cooking, music, playing the guitar and spending time with family and friends.
His family would like to thank the staff at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for the compassionate care that Jose received from them.
Survivors include 2 sons, Joaquim "Jack" Santos and his wife Joanne of Yorba Linda, CA and Joseph Santos, Jr. of Cumming, GA; 2 daughters, Candida DaRosa and her husband Gabriel of Dartmouth and Joyce deCarvalho of New Bedford; a sister, Edith Lomba of South Plainfield, NJ; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Manuel Santos and Joao Santos.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Service at the New Bedford Portuguese Seventh-day Adventist Church, 413 Rockdale Ave., New Bedford at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, December 7th from 4-8 PM.
