Richard J. Mulcahy, of Medford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. He was 62.
Born in Malden, he was raised in Medford, the son of the late John and Jean (Verrengia) Mulcahy. Richard graduated from Medford Vocational Technical High School, class of 1973. After serving in the U. S. Navy, Richard married his wife Margaret in 1982. Richard spent his career proudly serving in law enforcement with the Middlesex County Sherriff’s Department as a Corrections Officer, where he worked for twenty years. Following his retirement in 2004, Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and playing the guitar. Richard was a kind and loving man who cared most about taking care of his family.
He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Gill) Mulcahy of Medford, with whom he shared 33 loving years of marriage. Richard was the devoted father of Vanessa Amero and her husband Robert of Medford, Richard J. Mulcahy of Everett and Daniel J. Mulcahy of Medford. He was the loving grandfather of Lillyana, Isabella and John Amero all of Medford, and the dear brother of Patricia White and her husband Henry of Tewksbury, Steven Mulcahy of Arlington, Laurie Mastone and her husband Joseph of Tewksbury and Christine Vinci and her husband Michael of NH. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his brother Michael Mulcahy who died earlier in 2015.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Wednesday, December 9th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Richard’s name to the organization of One’s choice.
