Whitman – Carol A. (Hartwell) Belcher 80, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Saturday November 28 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late David Belcher.
Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hazel (Thompson) Hartwell and a graduate of Brockton High School.
Carol was an active member of the Whitman community and had served as a camp counselor at the former Girl Scout Camp Alice Carleton of Whitman. In later years she had devoted countless hours volunteering for many local groups, including Meals on Wheels, the Whitman Senior Center and the annual July 4th cookout at the Brockton VA Hospital.
She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics and crafting and had generously shared her talents with family and friends.
She is survived by her children Ronald Belcher of Whitman, Susan Curry and her husband Peter of Brockton, and Nancy Lawson of VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Robert Hartwell, Jr.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday December 2 at 7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 PM.
