David Alan Simmons, Sr., 52, of Ocilla passed away Monday, November 30, 2015, at home. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. His brother in law, the Reverend Lee Collins will officiate. Mr. Simmons will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery in the Simmons Family plot, next to his parents. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Shane Tucker, Kenny Jones, Keith Harbuck, Terri Hilton, Corey Bennett and Shon Grimes will serve as pallbearers.
Born July 8, 1963 in Ben Hill County, Mr. Simmons was the son of the late John William Simmons, Sr. and Billie Jean Wiley Simmons. He worked for Southern Ag in Albany and was a member of the Church of God by Faith in Ocilla. A loving family man, he was devoted to his children and cherished each precious grandchild.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Carrie Hamby Simmons of Ocilla; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Alan Jr. and Erica Simmons of Bonneau, South Carolina and Evan Robert Baker of Nashville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Amanda Layne Simmons and Corey Bennett of Ocilla, Elizabeth Jean Simmons of Erie, Pennsylvania and Belynda Jessie and Shon Grimes of Ocilla; a brother and sister-in-law, John William and Diane Simmons of Tifton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Audrey Armstrong and Joel Hipp of Cumming, Sabina and John Silvoy of Ocala, Florida and April and Lee Collins of Sylvania; and 18 grandchildren.
