Harold Wilson Bemis, 89 of Brewster, and formerly of Medway, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the husband of Edna (Marshall) Bemis for 70 years.
Born in Medway on November 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Ralph Otis and Dorothy Evangine (Wilson) Bemis.
Harold entered the Army out of high school and proudly served his country during WWII. After his service he finished school and attended Brandeis University.
Mr. Bemis was a resident of Medway for over 75 years and was the owner of H & H Flooring, a longtime family business.
Harold was an active member in the town of Medway and Served on the Board of Health, the Finance Committee, Board of Accessors, Planning Board and was a bank trustee for Medway Savings Bank. A loyal Republican he was a member of the Good Government Association and was also a member of the Masons, the Odd Fellows and the Lions Club.
In his spare time Harold enjoyed the restoration of colonial homes but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Barbara Delorey of Uxbridge, Carolyn Eason of Franklin, Donna Forrest of Harwich Port, Harold M. Bemis of Dennis, Ralph Bemis of Medway, Andrea Bemis of South Yarmouth, Howard Bemis of Hudson, and the late Herbert C. Bemis.
He was a proud grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather of many.
He is also survived by his brother Lawrence Bemis of Medway.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday, December 1st at 11:00am in the Medway Village Church, 170 Village St., Medway. Officiating clergy will be his son-in-law, Pastor Carl Delorey. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8pm in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St., Medway.
