Obituary

Ronald A. Rimmer, 88, of Fairhaven died May 31, 2005 at Nichols House Nursing Home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Gabrielle E. (Blanchard) Rimmer.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Thomas A. and Mary (Donnelly) Rimmer, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Rimmer was formerly employed as a firefighter for the City of New Bedford until his retirement in 1968.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the American Theater Campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. He was an officer and member of Elmwood Golf Association and a member of the Massachusetts Firemen's Association.
Mr. Rimmer was an avid golfer and founded the first youth golf program in New Bedford. He was a youth basketball referee for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra A. Charves, and her husband John, of Westport; 2 grandsons; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late J. Clinton Rimmer.
His private Funeral Service was held on Friday, June 3rd in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
