BUXTON- Patricia Ann (Stover) Bird, age 76 passed away on Nov. 22, 2015, at South Portland Nursing Home.
She was born in Providence, RI on Nov. 23, 1938, a daughter of the late Walter and Ina (Ward) Merrithew.
Patricia was the oldest of seven siblings, six which were sisters. At a young age, her family moved to Portland where she attended local schools.
In 1958, she married Thomas L. Stover and together they raised their three children in Scarborough. After losing her husband Thomas in April of 1980, Patricia married her current husband- Kenneth Bird in August of 1984.
When Patricia and Ken bought their home in Hollis their door was always open. It was not unusual to see anything from snowmobiles to stock cars being brought into their garage or a guest staying in the spare room.
For many years, Patricia worked as an inspector at National Semiconductor prior to her retirement.
Patricia will always be remembered as an avid Elvis Presley enthusiast. She also enjoyed making crafts, doing crossword puzzles, relaxing out in the sun, bowling, going to barbecues, dancing (she especially enjoyed The Twist) and spending time with her beloved family and friends – most especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by siblings- Jacki Foltz, Sharon Johnson, Donna Merrithew, and Michael Merrithew.
Patricia is survived by her loving husband- Kenneth “Butch” Bird; children- Thomas L. Stover Jr. and his wife Doris of Standish, Patricia A. Ames and her husband Dana of Buxton, and Michael A. Stover and his wife Veronica of Gorham; siblings- Carole Dorr of Gorham, Linda McGee of Portland, and Judith Hall of Portland; grandchildren- Jerry DePeter III and Ashley DePeter; and great grandchildren- Holden Gammon and Maxx DePeter.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday Nov. 30, from 6-8 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday Dec. 1 at 11 AM. Pastor Ron Sargent will officiate. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com.
