Joan G. (Downey) Mahoney RN, a 3 year resident of Seabrook, New Hampshire and a former 25 year resident of Saugus and formerly of Roslindale, entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter, New Hampshire. She was 82 years old.
Joan was born in Chelsea on October 6, 1933, a daughter of the late Daniel Downey and Nora (Mahoney) Downey. She grew up in Somerville where she was educated in the Somerville Public School System and graduated from Matignon High School in Cambridge. Joan later went on to receive a Nursing Degree from Laboure College in Dorchester. Joan worked as a Registered Nurse for over 55 years where she worked at both Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, St. Margarets Hospital in Dorchester, St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton and the Boston Public Schools system with the hearing impared. Joan enjoyed traveling(having been on 23 cruises), knitting, and bowling.
Joan is the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Mahoney(Retired Boston Police Department). She is the devoted mother of Mary Carroll and her husband Mark of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Joanmarie Rohracker of Seabrook, New Hampshire, and Virginia Forrestall and her husband Paul of Everett. She is the loving Nana to 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Mary Cameron of Seabrook, New Hampshire. She is also the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Margaret’s Church, 431 Lincoln Ave. Saugus at 11 A.M. Her burial is private. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
