Dr. Slesar and his wife, whom he met while students in Montreal, moved to Boston in 2001 to be close to his children and their growing families. While he suffered a physically debilitating stroke in 2002, he remained mentally acute and enjoyed his grand-children until his recent decline.

He will be remembered by his wife, and by his children and their children, for whom he encouraged and made it possible for them to attend undergraduate and graduate programs at schools in the United States, and for his support in the endeavors afterwards. He will be remembered by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
