Dorothy Priscilla (Goodnow) McCarthy, age 92, formerly of Natick, passed away peacefully November 11, 2015 at the Tallahassee, FL, home of her son, Arthur J. McCarthy, Jr., surrounded by loving family members.
Priscilla was born in Framingham to Charles Goodnow, Jr. and Dorothy Eaton Goodnow. She grew up in Sudbury where she enjoyed the activities of horseback riding and helping in the family business, breeding Irish Water Spaniels. Priscilla was a graduate of Sudbury High School and Portia College of Liberal Arts (currently New England Law Boston) in 1945.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Arthur J. McCarthy, D.V.M, in 2012. Priscilla and Arthur owned Brookside Animal Hospital in Natick from 1954 until their retirement in 1983. She is survived by her sons Arthur J. McCarthy Jr. and his wife Charlene of Tallahassee, FL, and Gary E. McCarthy and his wife Susan of Upton; her grandchildren Christa and A.J. McCarthy III of FL, and Kevin and Matthew McCarthy of MA; her great-grandchildren Ella and Mckinley Cray of FL; a sister Patricia (Goodnow) Thomas of GA; and her sister in law Hilda Goodnow of NH.
Priscilla loved spending her time in West Dennis and Flagler Beach, FL. She was an avid reader and a friend to all animals. In later years she was taken care of by her son Arthur J. and Charlene McCarthy.
Her Funeral Service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, MA, on Tuesday, November 17th at 11:00A.M. The McCarthy family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00A.M. Committal Rites will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:30P.M.
