MARLBOROUGH: Reid Crockett, 92, died peacefully surrounded by his devoted family on October 27, 2015 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Quincy on March 13, 1923 the son of the late Harold Crockett and Margaret (Nicolle) Crockett.
Reid is survived by his wife of 70 years, Charlotte M. (MacKelvie) Crockett of Marlborough formerly of Wayland. He was the father of G. Beth Crockett of Marlborough; Dean R. Crockett and his wife Daryl of Southborough and Neil Crockett of Orcutt, CA. Grandfather of Samantha M. Crockett of Haverhill and Cameron M. Crockett of Southborough. He was the brother of the late Jean Conway and Richard Crockett. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Reid has been a resident of Marlborough for the past 10 years and previously resided in Wayland for over 50 years. He spent his formative years in Quincy and was a graduate of North Quincy High School. He served his country proudly as a Technical Sergeant during World War II with the United States Army Air Corps, where he was stationed for a year in Italy. He attended art school in Boston and has had a long career as a Designer of Visual Merchandising. He was associated for many years with Gilchrists and Almys Department stores throughout Massachusetts. He was a longtime member of Community United Methodist Church in Wayland and in his earlier years participated on the church bowling and softball leagues. Reid was an avid golfer and also enjoyed watching all of the New England Sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He was an accomplished artist and painted in many media particularly watercolors. He also enjoyed playing basketball and cross country skiing during his earlier years. He loved to spend time with his family at their home in North Haven, Maine for many years. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Memorial Visitations will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:45 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will begin at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the summer at Brown’s Cemetery in North Haven, ME.
