Obituary

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VERMONT: Nicholas A. Hapshe, Sr., age 86, a former resident of Tewksbury for 30 years, died Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Veternas Administration Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont.
He was the husband of the late Loretta (Marchand) Hapshe.
Born in Lawrence on June 13, 1918, he was the son of the late Moses N. and Margaret (Ellis) Hapshe.
Mr. Hapshe attended Lawrence schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1935.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy and was awarded several decorations including the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Area Medal and the Phillipine Liberation Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed as the business manager by the Franciscan Friars Northeast Province at the Christian Formation Center in North Tewksbury.
Mr. Hapshe lived in Tewksbury and was a communicant of St. Williams parish until moving to Dracut in 1984.
In recent years, he resided in Chelmsford and Alexandria, New Hampshire.
He enjoyed many activities including saltwater fishing, camping and traveling to Africa, Hawaii, Alaska, Lebanon and Ireland.
He is survived by 2 sons; James Hapshe and his wife Elsa of Chelmsford and Nicholas Hapshe, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Alexandria, NH; 4 grandchildren; Tina Hapshe of Tewksbury, Eric Hapshe of Deerfield Beach, FL, Chad Hapshe of Lowell and Tim Polewarczyk of Alexandria, NH; 2 great grandchildren; Shannon and Alyssa Wink both of Tewksbury; 1 sister; Winifred Haykal of Edison, NJ; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hapshe was the father of the late Elaine Hapshe and brother of the late Edward and Milton Hapshe.
Calling hours Friday, June 3rd from 5-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral Saturday, June 4th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Elaine M. Hapshe Memorial Fund, c/o Georgia Southern University School of Medicine, P.O. Box 8053, Statesboro, GA 30460-8053 are requested
