Obituary

Edward F. Misiaszek age 72 of East Bridgewater died Tuesday November 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle as a result of the effects of Agent Orange. He was the devoted husband of Donna L. (MacDonald) Misiaszek for 46 years. Ed was born in Exeter, NH and raised in Londonderry, NH a son of the late Albert and Priscilla (Purington) Misiaszek and had been a resident of East Bridgewater for the past 36 years.
Following his graduation from Alvirne High School in Londonderry, Ed enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam and received many awards including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a combat engineer attached to the 1/9 and 3/9, who earned the title of “The Walking Dead” recorded in the history of the 9th Marines during the Vietnam War. He continued his 30 year career with the Marines and retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in recruiting offices in the Brockton and Taunton area. Ed began a new career as a mail handler with the US Post Office in Brockton. Illness forced his retirement in 2001.
A selfless man, Ed was an advocate for many patients at the Brockton VA Medical Center. He was instrumental in the PTSD program “Pathways to Recovery” at the hospital and was a member of the DAV Whitman Chapter 119. He was a humble and grateful member of the AA fellowship.
Ed will be remembered as a kind, generous and very caring person who loved trips to Aruba and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved his big, red truck with the custom engine and his black and yellow Labs, Mason, Mack, Tut, Cooper and Spencer.
In addition to his devoted wife Donna, Ed leaves a loving daughter Marisa Elgart and her husband Zak of Bridgewater and was the loving grandfather of Violet and Zeke. Ed was the brother of Kym Middleton of Longwood, FL; Montana Misiaszek of NH, Robert and Jack both of ME, Kenny of Japan and the late Harold and Gilbert Misiaszek. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Ed’s family would like to thank Steward Hospice for all their kindness and care.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday 2-6pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson at 11am. Burial with military honors to follow at 1:30pm at the Mass National Cemetery in Bourne.
