Raymond F. Sylvia, 86, of Dartmouth, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Hathaway Manor with his family by his side. He was the husband of Theresa G. (Boucher) Sylvia, his beloved wife of 64 years.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Mary (Noyer) Sylvia, he had resided in Dartmouth for most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Ray Sylvia Mason Contracting. Mr. Sylvia was an avid gardener and often brought his produce to the orphanage at St. Mary’s Home. He grew his own grapes which he used to make wine. He had a gentle soul and was a devoted father and husband who loved his family.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Dennis R. Sylvia and Duane R. Sylvia, both of Dartmouth; 2 daughters: Diane R. Dexter of E. Calais, VT and Debra L. Amaral of Dartmouth; 1 brother: Gordon Sylvia of New Bedford; 1 sister: Dorothy Grigaitis of Acushnet; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was the brother of the late Loretta Madora, Emily Rochefort and Donald Sylvia.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 P.M., prior to the service.
Interment will be private.
