Richard Joseph McGovern, Sr., 73, of Malden, MA, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his family. He was born February 3, 1942 in Brighton, MA and was a son of the late Terence and Mary (Grealish) McGovern. He was raised in Brighton where he graduated from the Saint Columbkille School. He also earned his Associates Degree from Bentley College. He was a resident of Malden for over 46 years.
Mr. McGovern worked as an accountant with the Andrew Dutton Co. for many years. He enjoyed Irish and swing music and loved to watch movies.
Members of the family include his wife of 47 years, Judith (Farraher) McGovern, two daughters and their husbands, Leighann M. and Jeff Maher and Lynn M. and Issam Krieche, his son and his wife, Richard J. and Miki McGovern, 10 grandchildren, three brothers and their wives, Francis G and. Marian McGovern, William P. and Geraldine McGovern, Roger E. and Wanda McGovern, two sisters, Anne M. and Raymond Noonan and Mary M. LaVita, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis McGovern.
A private service is being held by the family. After cremation, burial will take place at Great Hill Cemetery in Chester, NH.
