Obituary

Belmont-----Richard “Dick” Dennis Casey, 64, of 164 Ladd Hill Road, Belmont, NH, passed away Monday October 19, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.
Richard was born September 6, 1951, the son of Richard Alphonse and Eleanor Marie (Grant) Casey. Richard was predeceased by his sister Diana Jean and her husband David Sallies.
The Casey’s lived in the tight knit community of Lakeport known as Little Canada, where Dick made many lifelong friends.
Dick was an enthusiastic, avid and ethical sportsman and outdoorsman who enjoyed archery, fishing, and especially hunting with his grandson Aaron. He was a good marksman and known for his encyclopedic knowledge of arms and ammunition. Nothing pleased him more than to share his passion. He taught NRA Hunter Safety Courses and tried to include his whole family in his pursuit of the sport.
Dick’s humility and caring personality made him good with people. He always held that one must have respect for others, no matter their situation because he said “There but by the grace of God go I.” This belief held him in great stead at the Belknap County Department of Corrections, where he was an officer for 21 years, retiring as a sergeant. Dick also worked security at the Multiple Offender Program, Lakes Region General Hospital and Franklin Regional Hospital. Dick developed lifelong friends at all these facilities especially his “Brothers” at the County Jail.
Dick was first and foremost a provider. He had a tremendous amount of compassion for others and he tried to guard, guide, and smooth the way not only for friends and family but for people he met every day. He was always ready to offer his time and help to someone in need.
Though Dick was far from naive, he could still see the world with wonder. He was young at heart and managed to retain the simplicity of youth. His personality and sense of humor was magnetic. Dick was articulate and quick witted with the ability to crack the perfect joke, turn the perfect phrase, say one appropriate word and bring a smile to your face.
Musicians and writers inspired Dick’s awe and admiration. His respect for “wordsmiths” was boundless. He loved music of all genres and quoted poets, authors and lyrics from memory.
Dick adored his family and was never happier than when surrounded by as many members as possible. Dick tried to teach by example, Respect, Understanding, Love, Kindness, Loyalty and Honor. He was a great dad, wonderful husband, supportive brother and a lovely gentle man.
Richard is survived by his wife of 28 years Lynn (Eckhardt) Casey, son Jeremiah Timmins and his wife Courtney of Laconia, three daughters, Jessica LaFlower of Belmont, Amy Casey and her husband Lars Hatch of Laconia, Shannon Casey and her partner Marty Cohen of Laconia, and his baby sister Kathleen Casey, her husband Norman Bossey and their daughter/great niece Jasmine Sallies. Richard had four grandchildren, Aaron LaFlower, Charles, William and Eleanor Timmins. Richard leaves three nieces, Cindy Whitman of Palm Bay, FL, Lindsey Allen of Laconia and Julie Sallies of Manchester, and four great nephews.
Per Dick’s request there will be no calling hours.
A party and celebration of life will be held in September of 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
