Sophie (Macko) Solan, 93, of Norton and formerly of Millis, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the South East Health Care Center in North Easton. She was the wife of Richard Solan who died in 2003.
Born in Medway on October 30, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Josephine (Jankowski) Macko.
Mrs. Solan grew up in Medway and graduated from Medway High School in 1939.
She had worked at the former Herman Shoe Company in Millis for many years.
Mrs. Solan was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Norton.
She is also survived by a daughter Lynda Goldsmith and her husband Ronald of South Easton, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Dacosta Neto and her husband Uriel of West Palm Beach, Florida and Wendy Hammond and her husband Richard of Harwich and two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Alex.
She was the mother of the late Shirley Tedesco and sister of the late William Macko, Yetta Palladini, Helen Corey and Wanda Clancy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Tuesday, October 27 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 - 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Mrs. Solan’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
