SALEM - Frank J. Sosnowski, 95, of Salem, beloved husband of Lucile C. (Crowson) Sosnowski, died October 21, 2015 at the Veterans Hospital, Bedford.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Zukowska) Sosnowski. He was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1938 and was a member of the National Honor Society.
An honorably discharged WWII Navy veteran, he served in the aviation branch, attached to air sea rescue during submarine patrol and escort duty. He attained the rating of petty officer second class. During his service in the Navy, he met and married his wife Lucile, who was a Navy WAVE.
Following his military service, he joined the Salem Fire Department where he served for 36 years, retiring as a Deputy Fire Chief, a position he held for 22 years. He was a member of the former Mass Firefighters Retirement Association.
A lifelong resident of the city, he was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, a past commander of the American Legion, Post 23, a life member of the VFW, Witch City Post 1524 and a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 55, all of Salem, and was a life member of the DAV.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening and playing cards; things he enjoyed into his retirement.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 70 wonderful years of marriage, he is survived by a son Frank Sosnowski and wife Andrea, a daughter Maureen Lussier and husband David, Grandchildren, Frank McClain and wife Pauline, Kyle Lussier, Suzanne Duggan, Luella Holmes, Kayla Lussier, seven great grandchildren, a sister, Theresa Kerr and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Diane McClain and brother of the late John Sosnowski Jr, William Sosnowski, John B. Snow, Phyllis St. Laurent, Helen Murphy and Victoria Halica.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 8:45 AM from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Monday, 4 to 7 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
