HOLYOKE – Fernand Cardin, 86, a longtime resident of Mosher Street in the Flats section of Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at the Holyoke Healthcare Center in Holyoke surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on July 11, 1929, a beloved son of the late Armand and Irene (Brouillard) Cardin. He was raised and schooled in Holyoke and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke. During his younger years, he was a semi-professional bowler and roller skater. He was a member of the Tigers Athletic Club in Chicopee Falls. Most of all, Fernand was a quiet man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his infant sister, Lucille Cardin who passed away at the age of four months; his loving brother, Ernest J. Cardin who was Called Home on October 2, 1984; his loving sister-in-law, Gayle Cardin; and his loving brother-in-law, Alfred J. Lavigne who was Called Home on November 22, 2012. He leaves his devoted sister who was his longtime caregiver, Lorraine M. Lavigne of Chicopee; his two loving brothers, Roland Cardin of East Longmeadow and his twin brother, Normand Cardin and his wife, Claire, of Florida; and his many cherished nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Lavigne and Brouillard families. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, October 26, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
