Daniel J. McWilliams, 81, of Thornton Avenue, Smithfield, died Monday, October 19, 2015 at Fatima Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanne E. (Gagnier) McWilliams. They had been married for 60 years.
Born in Saugus, MA, he was a son of the late Daniel J. and Dorothy I. (MacLean) McWilliams. He worked in Providence for the US Postal Service for 33 years as a letter Carrier and later as a Supervisor. He also worked at RISD in the mailroom for ten years after retiring from the US Post Office. He served in the US Marines during Korea. He also served in the US Air Force.
He is also survived by his children: Jean M. Desrosiers and her husband, Richard of Coventry, Maureen A. Morel and her husband, Keith of West Warwick, Cathleen S. Bonetti and her husband, Michael of Warwick and Christine G. Gould and her husband, Christopher of North Smithfield, his four grandchildren: Timothy Morel,Bradley Gould, Nicholas Morel and Meghan Gould, and and his brother Richard McWilliams of Providence. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Sullivan and Edith Whitworth, Patricia Carvalho and Vincent McWilliams.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield funeal Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917. Burial with Military Honors in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Michael’s Church.
