Hilda Tibbetts died at Seashore Point Wellness Center on Saturday, October 10, 2015. She was 93. Hilda was born in Provincetown on August 24, 1922 to her parents John & Emily (Veara) Marshall in the family home at 37 Pleasant Street. She was the wife of the late John Edward Tibbetts. Her siblings, Francis H. "Cheney" Marshall, Priscilla (Marshall) Crawley, Amelia (Marshall) Bennett, and John Marshall all predeceased her.
Growing up in Provincetown, where a nickname was common, she picked up the nickname "Trudy" in her younger years due to the cigarette poster girl, model, and movie star Trudy Marshall. Her closest of friends, and family still called her Trudy, although most knew her in later years as Hilda. While growing up in Provincetown she worked at Brownelle's Drug Store, Suburban Gas, and several other locations.
Hilda lived in Boca Raton FL for many years, returning home to Provincetown when she moved to Seashore Point Health and Wellness Center in 2012. Hilda was wonderfully cared for by the loving staff of Seashore Point, Mary Anne O'Toole, and Beacon Hospice, while being monitored and overseen by her friend of 35 years, Russell Dutra of Boca Raton FL and her niece Betty and her husband Tom McCarthy of South Yarmouth MA.
Hilda is survived by her son John, Grandson John Marshall and Granddaughter Emily Elizabeth all of Cape Cod. She also leaves nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends.
There will be a graveside service at the Monsignor Duarte Chapel in Saint Peter's Cemetery, Provincetown Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 10:00am. Family and friends are invited to attend.
Donations in Hilda's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA. 22311, or at diabetes.org. Although Hilda herself was not diabetic, she had many family members and loved ones affected by the disease and it was always close to her heart.
