Joseph Mauro passed away peacefully at his Medford home surrounded by his loving family. He was 82. Born and raised in the Avellino Province, in the town of Pratola Serra, of Italy, he was the son of the late Domenico and Carmella (Iapicca) Mauro. Before coming to the United States, Joseph served as a member of the Polizia in Italy. He came to the United States as a young man of 25 and studied at Burdett College and Bentley College. Joseph worked as accountant throughout his life. His North End business served many restaurants, shops and small businesses in Boston’s North End and surrounding area. His native knowledge of the Italian language and keen professional intellect allowed him to help many people who started out in business in a new country. A Medford resident for over 50 years, he was a devoted family man who worked hard to provide for his family.
The beloved husband of Adelina "Lidia" (Marano), he was a devoted father to Domenic Mauro and his wife Denice of Medford, Vincent Mauro and his wife Elaine of Las Vegas, Joseph Mauro Jr. and his wife Tracy of Medford, Louis Mauro of Medford and the late John Mauro. He was a loving grandfather to Nicholas, Tia, Tess, Danielle, and Nicole. He also leaves his dear siblings: Giovannina Mastroangelo, Vincent Mauro and Angela Rosa all of Italy.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, October 17th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 3 - 8 PM.
