Joseph "Joe Tomatoes" Silvestro of Somerville died Sunday, October 11, at Pine Knoll Nursing Home of Lexington. Born and raised in Boston's South End, he was the son of the late Dominic and Antoinetta (Camponello) Silvestro. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he settled in Medford and worked as a produce dealer.
Joseph was the cherished brother of Anthony Silvestro and his wife Phyllis of Andover, the late Vincent Silvestro and his surviving wife Frances of Medford, the late Constant Polumbo and her husband Joseph, the late Mary Bazzinotti and her husband Joseph, the late Dominic Silvestro Jr. and his wife Theresa, the late George Silvestro and his surviving wife Mickey of Medford. He is also survived by Joanne Bazzinoti Hamilton and Patty Perruzzi who provided loving care, as well as many more loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Thursday, October 15 at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday, October 14 from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
