Douglas A. Cory, 81, of Little Compton died Thursday, October 8, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Susan (Merewether) Cory, his wife of 55 years.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Roy E. and Miriam (Armitage) Cory, he was a lifelong resident of Tiverton and Little Compton. Doug was the captain of the tugboat Roger Williams of the Providence Steamboat Company and was a commercial fisherman. He was a member of the Amicable Congregational Church, Tiverton. Mr. Cory spent most of his time on the waters of Narragansett Bay, both for work and pleasure. He also enjoyed gardening, building boats, fixing things, collecting treasures and his pets. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed family vacations, grandchildren's activities and their sporting events. His greatest pleasure was doing for and being with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children: Stacia Cory Piffard and Douglas A. Cory, Jr. and his wife Sherri; grandchildren: Curtis Cory, Alex Cory and Sophia Piffard; and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late George Foster Cory and Anita Cory Neville.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Amicable Congregational Church, Tiverton at 11:00 A.M.
Interment will be private.
