Tewksbury, Ma. - Willard C. Barnes, 83 of Tewksbury, passed away on Tuesday, October 06, 2015 at the Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy L. (Gass) Barnes, to whom he was married for 63 years.
Willard was born in Westbrook, Maine on May 27, 1932 and was the son of Howard and Levinnie (Williams) Barnes. He graduated from Westbrook High School and received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maine. He then received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He then worked as an electrical engineer with Lucent Technologies for over 30 years until his retirement.
Willard was a past officer in the Wamesit Masonic Lodge in Tewksbury. He was a master mason of Temple Lodge #86 in Westbrook, Maine and a member of the Shrine. He was also a former member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church. In his free time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially when he was at his home away from home at Tim Pond in Eustis, Maine. He was also a musician and enjoyed woodworking and genealogy.
Willard will be deeply missed by his wife, Dorothy; his 3 children, Cheryl Baroni and her husband, Gino of Atkinson, NH, Laura Barnes and her spouse, Tracy Horrigan of Braintree, MA, and Edwin Barnes and his wife, Donna of Methuen, MA; 5 grandchildren, Marielle and her husband, Bryan, Nicole, Robert, Ryan, and Valerie and her husband, Dale; 3 great grandchildren, Noah, Kianna, and Ava; and 2 sisters, Ruth Jensen of Windham, ME and Linda Barnes of Norway, ME.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Willard’s life by gathering for a graveside service at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 1:30 PM. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested, in Willard’s honor, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
