Obituary

MARGARET MARY (CLEMMEY) CLIFFORD, 89, passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2015. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts on August 23, 1926, the daughter of the late Francis W. and Caroline (Bedell) Clemmey, she was the wife of Thomas T. Clifford, with whom she recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

A graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Taunton, Margaret graduated from Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and began a long career as a registered nurse at Morton Hospital, Union Hospital, and Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Her warmth, compassion, quiet strength, practical wisdom, and wry sense of humor enriched the lives of all who knew her. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening, travel, spending her summers camping in South Dennis, MA, and – most of all – sharing in the adventures and accomplishments of her family, in whom her generous spirit shines.

In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived and sadly missed by her children, Rosemary Borden; Nancy Curtin; Thomas T. Clifford and his wife, Lynn; and William F. Clifford and his wife, Kelly; by her grandchildren, Christopher J. Borden and his wife, Kay Bassen; Caryn and Cheryl Borden; Kate and Deirdre Curtin; Brooke Clifford and her companion, Allen Carpenter; Rebecca Clifford; Matthew Clifford and his fiancée, Alyssia Soares; and Meaghann, Liam, Patrick, Tara, and Rileigh Clifford; by her great-grandchildren, Malcolm and Matilda Borden; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, John P. Clifford, and her son-in-law, David G. Borden. She is survived by her sisters Dorothea Jakubowski and Carolyn Flanagan.

Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street, Taunton, MA 02780 on Friday, October 9th at 10:00am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, Spring Street, North Dighton, MA 02764 at 11:00am.
