Nellie Irene Broome, 92, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Pruitt Health in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30AM until the service hour at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Broome was born July 27, 1923, in Newton County, Georgia, to the late Elmo and Elizabeth Fincher Kitchens. She lived in the community most of her life and worked for Jaco Fabrics, Modern Fibers & Tice Yarn, Irwinville Peanut Mill, Weaver Peanut Mill and Walker’s 5 & 10 for over 50 years. Mrs. Broome was a member of Ocilla Church of God.
She is survived by her daughter: Janet B. Peacock & James of Irwinville; son-in-law: Jack Ritch; five grandchildren: Beth R. James, Joey Ritch, Ann R. Brown, Wallace Peacock and Cindy P. Glow; 19 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James Cleveland Broome; two daughters: Janice McGee and Jacqueline Ritch; three brothers: O. L. Kitchens, Onree Kitchens and James Kitchens; four sisters: Armel Speers, Inez Evans, Margie Hendley and Peggy McGee.
