Raymond Alanson "Lance" Battey, 89, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of the late Hazel May (Williams) Battey. They were married for 31 years. He was also married to the late Barbara (Johns) Battey.
Born in Smithfield, he was a son of the late Raymond L. and the late Helen G. (Paine) Battey. He was a graduate of North Providence High School. After serving honorably in the United States Army, Lance returned to Rhode Island to work at various jobs until he retired from RI Public Transit Authority. He was a die-hard Red Sox and Bruins fan. He was a kid at heart and his sense of humor will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children, Karen Lowe and her husband, Chuck, of Smithfield, Linda Freitas of Lincoln, and David Battey of Lincoln, his step-children, Joseph Williams, and his wife, Mary Pat of Charleston, IL, John M Garcia, Sr. and his wife, Alethea of Bar Harbor, ME and James E. Garcia of Johnston, his nine grandchildren, Eric and Lisa Freitas, Jessica Pepper, Carrie, John Michael Jr., and Lauren Garcia, Logan and Tristan Williams and Rachel Battey, his three great-grandchildren and his sister Elaine Catlow. He was the step-father of the late William R. Garcia and the brother of the late Ralph, Leslie and Milton “Foo” Battey, Eleanor Campbell and Shirley Eagleson.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12 noon in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, with visitation from 11:00AM-12:00. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.The Jimmy Fund
