Obituary

Rosamond P. Swain (Ronnie) of Wayland passed awayunexpectedly on September 16, 2015 at the Phillips House at MassachusettsGeneral Hospital. Ronnie was a long-timeresident of Wayland; she raised her children there, retired in a condominiumthere and had recently moved into the Carriage House, a senior living center inWayland. She was agraduate of the Winsor School and Smith College. She earned a Masters in Special Educationfrom Regis College. With this degree,she continued her teaching career in the Wayland Public Schools. She became a close friend to many of herstudents and their families. Learningwas so important to her, that she tutored women prisoners until this pastspring. And she continued taking classesfor herself, too.

Ronnie began her formal connection with the Wayland FreePublic Library after her daughter Janet died in 1974. She and her husband Bob established a teenbook collection in memory of Janet Tucker Swain. Later, Ronnie became a library trustee. Ronnie fostered a love of books in herchildren and always had 3-4 books she was in the middle of and eager todiscuss.

After her husband died in 1988, Ronnie developed a strongconnection with hospice care. She was ahospice volunteer through Parmenter Health and Hospice in Wayland for manyyears.

Ronnie has been a long time member of the First Parish inWayland. She was active in the churchfundraising and working with intern ministers. She even drove fellow residents to church from her home at the CarriageHouse!

Ronnie was also a lifelong member of the Wayland Swimmingand Tennis Club. She played tennis therefor many years and watched her children compete on the swimming and divingteams. Her love of the water hascontinued with her grandchildren who love to play in the ocean.

Ronnie was the cherished mother of Richard Swain (and hiswife Clare Clifford), Laura Swain (and her husband Scott Gordon) and LindaSwain (and her husband George Guzzi) and Janet Swain (deceased) and wife of thelate Robert S. Swain, Jr. (Bob). She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren,Amanda Swain, Jeffrey and Ketan Gordon, and Luca and Marina Guzzi. She was the dear sister of Roger Pugh, BetsyPugh and Ann Pugh. Ronnie is also remembered by her nieces and nephews and hermany grandnieces and nephews.
