Frederick E. "Fred" Stearn, a 22 year resident of Tewksbury and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a short courageous battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.
Fred was born in Somerville on July 6, 1945 to the late Mary DeFusco and was adopted a short time later by Herman Stearn and Irene (Manley) Stearn. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1965. Fred was the owner of the Million Dollar Mary Smoke Shop located at 36 Province St. in Boston for over 25 years. Prior to owning his own establishment, Fred worked as a butcher at the Meat Market located at the corner of Trenton St. and Bunker Hill St. for several years. Fred was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting and walking the beach with his metal detector. Fred's passion was his gardening expertise in Charlestown and Tewksbury where he was very proud of the vegetables he grew each year.
Fred is the beloved husband of the late Mary F. (Nardone) Stearns. He is the devoted father of Tina Dalli of North Carolina, Sharlene Cahill and her husband David of Charlestown, Michael Stearns of Charlestown, Kimberly Stearns-Cifelli and her husband Michael of Andover and Frederick "Ricky" Stearns and his companion Pam Butler of Tewksbury. He is the loving Papa Fred to Dante, Taylor, Michael, MacKenzie, Calan, Colby, Carly and Sadie. He is the beloved brother of Joanne Peck of Charlestown.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fred's Funeral on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Haverhill. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 2 to 6 P.M. in the funeral home.
