Obituary


Loving husband and father, Robert T. Carew, 84 of Whitman, MA died on September 13 at Sachem Center for Rehabilitation in East Bridgewater after a long illness.

Born in Boston in 1930, Bob was the fourth of six children to Thomas and Jennie Carew of Roslindale. After graduating high school, he served in the U.S. Army. He then served as a Freight Elevator Operator for Sears Roebuck Catalog Distribution Center in Boston and also as a Mail Handler for the U.S. Post Office in South Boston and in Waltham. He enjoyed all sorts of home improvement projects, all of our Boston sports teams, gardening, riding his bike, and all exploits of his children and grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Adelaide M. (Spenard) Carew and their five children and five grandchildren—daughter Theresa & son-in-law Arthur Najarian of Hanson, daughter Christina & son-in-law Nicholas and granddaughter Olivia Mucci also of Hanson, son Michael & Erin King of Middleboro, daughter Jennifer Grady of Whitman, son Matthew & daughter-in-law Tobey and grandchildren Sadie, Abigail, Harrison Robert, and Hazel, also of Whitman.

He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas & Jennie Carew of Roslindale, as well as his brothers and sisters—Arthur and his wife Kay of Tewksbury, John of Woburn, James of Roslindale, Regina also of Roslindale, and Emily Doran and her husband Herbert of Rockland; his mother-in-law Helen (Spenard) Roche and her husband Edmond of Kingston; and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Grady of Whitman.

In addition, he leaves behind sister-in-law Jane Carew of Woburn, brother and sister-in-law Donald and Candida (Carew) Leonard of Franklin, brother and sister-in-law Philip and Flo Spenard of Attleboro, and cousins, nieces, and nephews too numerous to count.

His services will be held Saturday September 19 at 9:45 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday September 18 from 3:30–8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, if preferred, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Whitman Senior Center, 16 Hayden Avenue, Whitman, MA.
