Frank Maher, 75, formerly of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside in the American Assisted Living facility in Hanson on Monday September 14, after a long illness.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts to John and Angelina Maher in 1939, Frank was proud of his mixed Portuguese and Irish ancestry. Whether enjoying a hearty Portuguese meal, or, establishing the St. Patty’s Day Parade in Loquillo, Puerto Rico, Frank could always be counted on to celebrate life to the fullest with family and friends.
Frank valued service to his country and community. He served two tours of active duty in the United States Army and followed this with decades-long membership in the Massachusetts National Guard. As a school committee member and Knight of Columbus, he spent countless hours serving his neighbors and those less fortunate. He could never let the opportunity go by to make any child’s life a little bit better with a toy or sweet treat.
Frank was predeceased by his wife Joanne Maher and his brother Jack Maher and leaves behind his sons Jeff and Tim Maher, his daughters-in-law Judi and Robin Maher, his four grandchildren Meghan, Chris, Patrick, and Elizabeth, his sister Kathy, his brother-in-law John Barrette his sister-in-law Rosie, and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His funeral service will be held Monday September 21 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Vising hours will be held Sunday September 20 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM.
