Obituary

Holice Barton, Jr., 68, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, September 13, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Fitzgerald Church of God with the Rev. Dewain Joiner and the Rev. Aubrey Maye officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Barton was born February 28, 1947, in Lenox, Georgia, to the late Early Horace & Etta Louise Bledsoe Barton. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned his GED and later studied plumbing at Ben Hill-Irwin Technical School. He worked for Coachmen Industries for almost 30 years making cabinets and running the saw. Following his retirement, Mr. Barton was a self-employed painter. He loved people and will be remembered for his contagious laugh and the broad smile he always shared. He was an active member of the Fitzgerald Church of God where he served as a greeter.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Clara Justice Barton of Fitzgerald; two sons: Tony Jacobs of Mesa, Arizona and Patrick Jacobs (Janet Brown) of Fitzgerald; his grandchildren: Shannon Jacobs, McKenzie Jacobs, Melissa Jacobs, Kirstian Semprevivo, Kurtis Hendley, and Kyle Hendley; two brothers: Ottis & Jan Barton and Harvey Barton, all of Tifton; and a sister, Ruth & Joe Marta of Tifton. Also surviving are Diane Touchton and Ida Hendley, mothers of Mr. Barton’s grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
