Mary Ellen (Normile) Carter, 102, of New Bedford died Saturday May 21, 2005 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond Carter.
Born on May 20, 1903 in Preston, Lancashire, England, the daughter of the late James and Jane Ann (Booth) Normile, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Mrs. Carter was formerly employed at the Cornell-Dubilier Electronics Corporation, the Dartmouth Mill, the Page Mill, and the Gosnold Mill until her retirement.
She was a former member of the Hazelwood Senior Citizens, the St. Francis of Assisi Women's League, the Legion of Mary, and the St. Francis of Assisi Senior Citizens.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruthann Honer and her husband Deacon Paul Honer of Pensacola, Florida; her sister-in-law, Ruth Hemmann of Acushnet; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday May 24, 2005 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday May 23, 2005 from 5-7 PM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of one's choice.
