Tiverton, R.I. - Beatrice Rawcliffe Sanford. 84, passed away July 6, surrounded by her Family. She was the wife of Quentin A. Sanford. They marked their 59th Wedding Anniversary on June 30th.
She was the owner of Pachet Brook Park in Tiverton and Handy Hill Creamery in Westport, Mass and former owner of Heritage Park in Tiverton and Star Diner in Rumford, RI.
Born in Central Falls, R.I. to the late James and Beatrice (Hartley) Rawcliffe. She moved with her family to Lincoln, RI in 1937.
She was a 1948 graduate of Central Falls High School. During high school, she was employed at Lincoln Woods Farm Creamery as an ice cream scooper. Following graduation, she was employed at Gorman’s Bakery in Central Falls as the assistant to the Office Manager.
She was a long time member of Holy Trinity Church in Tiverton where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vestry Member and on the Altar Guild. She was in charge of the Altar flowers for close to 20 years until illness forced her to retire.
Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter Bethany Smith and her husband Douglas of Westport, Mass and her son Quentin, Jr. of Tiverton.
She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Sandra) Rawcliffe of Smithfield, RI, Mrs. Roger (Doris) Sanford of Westport and Mrs. George (Jocelyn) Sanford of Lincoln, RI. Brother-in-law Jay L. Churchill of Tiverton and many nieces, nephews, dear friends the Caron Family and her cats Dusty Paiva and Tux.
She was predeceased by her brothers Charles E. Rawcliffe, Frank Rawcliffe, James Horace Rawcliffe and James Rawcliffe.
At her request, visitation was omitted. A memorial service will be held September 16, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Church, 1956 Main Rd., Tiverton, RI
Burial to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Church Memorial Fund, the American Cancer Society or the Parkinson’s Foundation. A special way to remember Beatrice would be to bring flowers to a shut-in.
The name Beatrice means “She who Blesses” and she was the embodiment of her name. We were all blessed to have had her in our lives.
