The Honorable J. Harvey Davis, Superior Court Judge, 62, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 22, 2005 in the Superior Courtroom of the Irwin County Courthouse in Ocilla, with Rev. Robert Couey, Rob Reinhardt, and Wyndall Walters officiating. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM Saturday in the Superior Courtroom. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.
Judge Davis was born January 24, 1943, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Harmon Columbus and Mary Elizabeth Moore Davis. Having lived in Irwin County all of his life, Judge Davis was educated in the Irwin County School System and graduated in 1961 from Irwin County High School. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. He finished his education at Mercer University graduating with a Juris Doctor Degree from the Walter F. George School of Law, class of 1969. Judge Davis entered practice with W. Emory Walters that same year and was a partner in Walters, Davis, and Pujadas, P.C. for thirty years. Judge Davis was elected to the position of Superior Court Judge for the Tifton Judicial Circuit in 2000, and was re-elected without opposition in 2004. Judge Davis was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
Judge Davis is survived by his wife: Lisa Harper Davis of Ocilla; two sons and daughters-in-law: James Harvey, Jr. and Tracy Davis of Fitzgerald and Sam and Talina Davis of Douglasville; three daughters and a son-in-law: Lana Nicole and Lee Bryant, Tiffany Michelle, and Lindsey Marie, all of Ocilla; two grandchildren: Braswell Bryant and Savanna Davis; one brother: Harmon Davis of Ocilla; three sisters: Dorothy Coalson, Mildred Cook, and Linda Delaney, all of Ocilla; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Davis.
The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Harvey’s Fund, c/o Tifton Regional Foundation, P.O. Box 747, Tifton, GA 31793, to help other oncology patients of Tift Regional Hospital with their needs.
