David F. Cain, a 59 year resident of Melrose and Moody Beach, Maine, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 31, 2015 at his home in Melrose following an extended illness surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
David was born in Somerville on September 21, 1931, a son of the late Leo Cain and Julia (Lane) Cain. He grew up in Somerville where he was educated at St. Ann's Parochial School and graduated from Somerville High School in 1949. David enlisted into the United States Army on October 8, 1952 and served his country faithfully and with courage during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on September 15, 1954 with the rank of Corporal. David worked as an electrician for over 30 years with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and was a 58 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local # 103. David enjoyed the quality time throughout his life spending the summers at Moody Beach in Maine. David was an avid sports fan, loved hockey and the Boston Bruins. He was the ultimate sports fan attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events.
David is the adored husband of 59 years to Jean C. (Grant) Cain. He is the devoted father of Michael Cain and his wife Robin of Melrose, Lori Smith and her husband Robert of Melrose, Paula Meroski and her husband Paul of Melrose and the late William Scott Cain. He is the loving Papa to Lindsay, Jennifer, Amanda, Abbey, Connor and Caroline. He is the beloved brother of the late Ann Pike, Leo Cain and Jack Cain. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend David's Funeral on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, (corner of Myrtle & Herbert Streets) Melrose at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
