Laureen A. “Laurie” (Fitzgerald) Barrett, of Leland, North Carolina formerly of Plymouth and Duxbury, passed away on August 27th, after a long illness. She was the loving wife of Charles Barrett.
She was born in Boston, grew up in Duxbury, daughter of Reginald and Helen (Bodel) Fitzgerald.
Laurie was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Kingston and Providence College, where she got her degree in Special Needs Education. She was a teacher’s assistant in the Leland School System for 9 years.
Laurie was a resident of Plymouth for many years before moving to North Carolina 11 years ago.
She was very devoted and forever a proud mother of her children, for their high academic and extracurricular achievements. Laurie traveled around as a softball and band mother and all other activities the children would have.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was the devoted mother of Meghan and Patrick Barret of Leland, NC, sister of Reginald Fitzgerald, III and his wife Kelly of NH, John Fitzgerald of Duxbury and Joanna Beaupre and her husband Paul of Whitman; also her nephews Ryan, Colin and Liam.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on, Thursday September 3rd from 5:00-8:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday September 4th at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sacred Heart High School, 399 Bishops Hwy, Kingston, MA 02364.
