PORTLAND- Magdalena Moreno Tovar, 85 of Portland, Maine passed away peacefully on August 24, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born in the municipality of La Calera, Colombia on February 15, 1930. The daughter of the late Luis and Magdalena (Magola) Tovar. She obtained her degree in Anesthesiology in 1952. The family moved in 1966 to New York City and later, in 1978, moved to Maine. Her love of helping others continued through-out her life by way of working at Hibbard’s Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft, and volunteer work as needed, she also was a child care provider at Noah’s Ark Day Care Center, Portland. She made countless donations to numerous organizations over the years.
She is predeceased by her son Alvaro Moreno, two brothers, Luis Tovar and Jesus Tovar and one sister Carmen Tovar. Magdalena is survived by three sons and one daughter, Andres Moreno and his wife Jean of Dover-Foxcroft; Gilbert Moreno of Portland; Daniel Moreno and his wife Judy of Auburn and Elvira Else and her husband William of South Carolina. She is survived by one brother, Dr. Bernardo Tovar Gomez of Bogota, Colombia and two sisters, Maria Tovar Ferro of La Calera, Colombia and Blanca Urdaneta Tovar of Bogota. Eleven grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 29, at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church, at 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland, Maine with a family and friends gathering following the service.
