GORHAM- Judy C. Berry, 65, passed away Aug. 24, 2015, after a brave fight with leukemia. She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Stephen O. Berry Sr.; son Stephen Berry Jr. and his wife Kate, along with her grandchildren Natalie and Owen, all of Gorham; son Richard Berry and grandson Alex Berry, of Buxton; and son Michael Berry and wife Peggy of Bonny Eagle. She is also survived by brothers Richard West of Buxton; Clifford West and wife Ann of Steuben; and sisters Elizabeth Williams and Evelyn Bourgeois of Buxton, Thelma Cope of Portland and many nieces and nephews.
Judy was one of eleven children to the late Emery and Leah West of Steuben, Maine where she spent much of her childhood lobstering with her father and brother, Clifford. With that many people, Judy used to joke that there were a lot of attitudes in one little home.
Judy and Steve sold their home of 40 years on Brackett Road in Gorham in 2010 to travel the country in their camper. They enjoyed their experiences, but always came back to Maine to spend their summers at her childhood home in Steuben where they spent their days fishing and evenings hosting family and friends for campfires and feasts of lobsters and homemade fries. They also spent many summers camping on nearby Flint and Dyer Islands.
Spending time with her grandchildren brought Judy great happiness. They taught each other tofind joy in the smallest of things, and of course, she spoiled them to no end. She also enjoyed sharing her knowledge of gardening and sewing with granddaughter Natalie.
Judy and her family would like to thank the following people for their kindness, support and compassion: Dr. Timothy Baum and his nurse Sara Baker, Dr. Andrew Corsello and the many people from Hospice of Southern Maine who helped during this difficult time.
She will be forever loved by her family and friends.
At Judy’s request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are with Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service, Long Plains Road, Buxton. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com.
