Obituary

Westport – Gerald M. Hanley, 73, of Westport died December 9, 2004 at home, after a long illness. He was the husband of Jean M. (Connell) Hanley.

He was born in Fall River, son of the late Michael J. and Ann E. (Guillotte) Hanley, and had lived in Westport for the past 40 years. He attended St. Joseph’s School, Fall River and was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School Class of 1950. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a senior cryptographic operator and repairman. He received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal, awarded on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport.

He was employed as a truck driver for J.J. Taylor, and was a member of the Local Teamsters Union #59. He also worked as a fireman for the New Haven-Hartford Railroad. Mr. Hanley was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Isidore Council, Westport and a life member of the V.F.W. Post 8502, Ouellette Post, Westport.

Including his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: Michael G. Hanley of Westport and Patrick Hanley of Westport; a sister: Suzanne M. Cabral of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services were held at the convenience of the family.
