Obituary

JACKIE LEE “JACK” BROWN, Age 80, passed from this world on Saturday evening, August 22, 2015, at his home following a short illness. His passing came just two days after his 80th birthday.

A former welding engineer for American Air Filter, he went into business for himself in the mid 1960’s and operated Jack Brown Engineering in Louisville’s southend. His focus was primarily auto racing and competition vehicles. Initially, his specialty item was designing competition oil pans for racing engines, a niche item, he was only one of a few in the country manufacturing them from his own custom designs. His slogan was “Weld Anything But A Broken Heart”.

Eventually, he and his small staff, consisting of his sons Tim and Shawn, constructed complete stock cars for some of the area’s top drivers and car owners. The cars won major race events and several championships at all the area speedways such as Sportsdrome, Fairgrounds Motor Speedway, Salem Speedway and Louisville Motor Speedway.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Toska “Ann” Taul Brown, and two sons, Mark and Tim.

He is survived by three daughters, Tonya Allen (Phil), Lisa Shipley (Spence) and Robin Gallagher (Shawn). In addition, he leaves behind six grandchildren, Misty, Lindsey, Austin, Logan, Connor and Jack, along with four great-grandchildren, Bradlee, Jenna, Lukas and Brayden.

The family would also like to recognize a gentleman who was like a son to Jack as well, Dennis Sharp.

Funeral services will be Wednesday 1:00 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Bethany Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00–8:00 p.m. and Wednesday after 11:00 a.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus.

Special thanks is given to Dr. Aaron Spaulding for his kindness and support during our Dad’s illness.
