Rita M. Berube (née Hillard), born in Pittsfield, MA on March 2, 1926, passed away August, 20, 2015 at Mary Immaculate in Lawrence, MA with her children at her side. Rita lived most of her life in Andover and Lawrence. She moved to Lawrence as a young girl and graduated from St Patrick and Our Lady of Good Counsel Schools (now Lawrence Catholic Academy). She worked in the Ayer Mills until her marriage to the late Raymond Berube. Rita also worked in the shoe industry, at Valleys Restaurant, and the Lamplighter Rest Home. Her greatest joy was being at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, son Michael of Bradford and Foxboro, daughter Denise Mailloux and her husband Daniel of Methuen, daughter Susan Overka of Lawrence, and son John and his wife Carol of Methuen. Rita also leaves her twelve beloved grandchildren, Michael Jr., Peter, Connor, Christine, Joseph, Keith, Timothy, Marc, Zackary, Bobby, Johnny, and Caitlyn, and ten great grandchildren, Michael III, Matthew, Ryan, Liam, Logan, Michaila, Kellen, Sydnee, Parker, and Everly.
Rita also leaves her sister Joan her husband Steven of Pittsfield, and her brother John “Jack” Meteyer and his wife Nadean of Auburn, WA. Rita was predeceased by her sister Margaret Dumont, and her brothers Robert and Richard. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
At the request of Rita’s family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Mary Immaculate Nursing Memorial Fund, 172 Lawrence Street, Lawrence MA 01841, or the Merrimac Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimac Street, Lawrence, MA 01843, Attn: Development Office.
Friends are welcome to visit at the Kenneth Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 for a service at 7:00 PM. Calling hours will be 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen.
