Richard J. Courtens, 69, of Mendon Road, Cumberland, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 in Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Camille J. and Doris S. (Boisvert) Courtens.
Richard was a 1964 graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket. He continued his education, graduating from Providence College in 1968, attending St. John’s University in New York during 1969, and completing his studies with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College in 1974. Richard received High Honors from each school he attended.
He used his skills for thirty years with the Department of Children, Youth and Families, Providence, retiring in 1998 as an Administrator.
Richard was a member of AARP, the Knights of Columbus in Cumberland and the Providence College Alumni Association.
He is survived by his brother Camille E. Courtens and his wife Nancy, their son Robert Haley Courtens, all of Woonsocket, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
