Ishmael I. "Ish" Carter, 83, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at his Yulee residence.
He was born October 24, 1931 in Baxley, GA, the son of Sylvester and Claudia Oneal Carter. He moved to Yulee, FL in 1961 from Flowery Branch, GA.
Mr. Carter retired from Container Corp. in Fernandina Beach in 1963. He was a Korean War Veteran serving aboard the USS Taylor with the U. S. Navy.
Mr. Carter was a loving husband and father. He was also known for this kind heart in helping others, even to the point where he was thought of as an adoptive father.
After he retired, he and his wife, Nadine, enjoyed traveling and camping in their Airstream camper. Mr. Carter enjoyed going to the movies, sometimes two or three times a week. He also enjoyed Blue Grass Music, and would meet monthly with friends in Baxley, GA to attend the "Ole Opry House."
He was predeceased by his wife, Nadine Todd Carter; a son, Nicky Carter, daughter, Pam Norman; a brother, Perry Carter; and a great grandchild, Dillon McCormick.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Carter (Wanda) of Orange Park, FL, Jerry Carter of Yulee, FL and Ivey Carter (Teresa), also of Yulee; a sister, Patricia Krown; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 Monday, August 24, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the U. S. Navy. Those attending should arrive at the cemetery between 11:00 and 11:30 lining up in lane number 3.
