Marcel Plante, 81, of Woonsocket was called home to the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Saturday August 15, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Simone M. (Girard) Plante. They were married on June 15, 1957.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Robert and Jeanne (Gosselin) Plante. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Plante was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War.
He was employed the former Joe Wrona service station on North Main St. in Woonsocket and then at Sears for over 25 years. He later worked at Lincoln Dodge on the courtesy shuttle for several years until retiring.
An active parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church he was a member of the parish council and donated much of his time working around the parish.
Marcel was an avid card, backgammon and cribbage player and could be found at the Woonsocket senior citizens center and the Club Lafayette.
A dedicated family man, his favorite pastimes in his retirement years were watching his grandchildren play baseball and hockey and attending their concerts.
In addition to his wife of 58 years he is survived by three daughters Lisa A. St. Germain and her husband, Michael, and Melissa M. Plante all of Woonsocket and Christina D. Boyan and her husband, David, of Millville. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Drew and Kyle St. Germain, Shayna and Luke Boyan and Jordan Archer.
His funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5-8 pm.
