FRANCIS E. SILVA, JR., age 85, a Hingham resident for 50 years, died on Wednesday, May 11th at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth after a brief illness. Mr. Silva was born in Dorchester and spent his early years in Roslindale. He graduated from Boston Latin, Harvard University and Harvard Law School. Mr. Silva served with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. An attorney by profession, Mr. Silva was associated for many years with the law firm of Warner & Stackpole in Boston (now Kirkpatrick and Lockhart). He was a member of the Republican Town Committee and was active in the civic affairs of the Town of Hingham including his service on the Planning Board. He freely gave of his time to the Boy Scouts of Hingham and enjoyed fishing.
Husband of the late Barbara E. (Hartshorn) Silva, he is survived by his daughter; Ellen S. Barry and her husband Robert J. of Marshfield; his grandchildren, Alexandra Marie Barry and Michael Francis Barry both of Marshfield and several nieces and nephews. He also was the father of the late Peter H. Silva.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, May 21st at 1 PM at the Second Parish Church, 685 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham, MA 02043 where he was an active member.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Second Parish Church.
The interment is to be private.
