Obituary

Nell Sirmons Hunter, 74, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with Elder Ed McIntyre and Elder Roger Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Henderson Memorial Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Hunter was born May 7, 1931, in Crisp County, Georgia to the late Johnnie Nathaniel and Vera Sargent Sirmons. She lived in the community for the past twenty-six years from Cordele and was a 1948 graduate of East Crisp High School. Mrs. Hunter was a former employee of Kay’s Beauty Shop, former owner/operator of her own beauty shop, both in Cordele and for twenty-five years, she and her husband owned and operated Hunter’s Barbeque in Irwin County. She was a member of Peavy United Methodist Church in Cordele.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by a stepson: Jerry Carl Hunter of Ocilla; two brothers: James W. Sirmons of Cordele and Gordon Sirmons of Pinehurst; two sisters: Mildred Sirmons and Jeanette Sirmons, both of Cordele; three grandchildren: Amanda Williams, Matthew Hunter and Marshall Hunter and two great-grandchildren: Zachary Williams and Mackenzie Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Franklin Hunter and stepson, Rev. Gerald Hunter and his wife, Carol Hunter.
