DEERING, NH: Frederick C. “Fred” Gath, age 89, a resident of Deering for over 25 years and a former Tewksbury resident and avid outdoorsman, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at the Concord Hospital in Concord, NH.
He was the husband of Louise T. (Marion) Gath with whom he celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on April 7th and the late Louise E. (Shaw) Gath who died in 1954.
Born in Lowell, MA on July 9, 1915, he was the son of the late Fred D. and Elizabeth M. (Leonard) Gath.
Mr. Gath was raised in Tewksbury, MA. He attended Tewksbury schools and was graduated from the former Lowell Trade School in 1932.
Mr. Gath resided in Tewksbury, MA for over 50 years until moving to Deering, NH in 1979. Mr. Gath was a winter resident of Haines City, FL.
While living in Tewksbury, MA he was a communicant of St. Williams Parish.
Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed for 32 years in the maintenance department of Monsanto Chemical Company of Everett, MA. In addition, he served as shop steward and was a life member of the International Chemical Union, Local # 57.
Mr. Gath was a charter member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks # 2070.
He enjoyed numerous activities including fishing and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters; Susan R. Pinto of Westford and Jayne (Gath) DeLucia of Hillsboro, NH; 1 son; Frederick C. Gath, Jr. and his wife Theresa (Teague) of Lowell; 1 sister; Alice R. Pollinger of Lowell; 1 brother; Russell F. Gath and his wife Lynn of Tewksbury; his daughter-in-law; Marlene M. Gath of Tewksbury; his former daughter-in-law; Marie Major of Tewksbury; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mr. Gath was the father of the late James H. Gath, brother of the late Mary E. McCarthy, Anna P. Boisvert, Leonard L., William D., Charles O. and Harold J. Gath and father-in-law of the late Richard F. Pinto.
Calling hours Wednesday, May 11th from 4-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY, MA. Funeral Thursday, May 12th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Thursday, may 12th at 10 a.m. at St. Williams Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury, MA. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery will be held at a later date.
